Nick Maher is a highly experienced public affairs and communications adviser who provides government relations expertise, issues management skills and strategic counsel to SEC Newgate’s corporate and government clients.

Nick leads SEC Newgate’s energy specialty, with in-depth knowledge of the sector and works regularly with clients across the industry including Snowy Hydro and the Australian Energy Market Commission.

He also has a track record of working with overseas investors including Singapore Power and Cheung Kong Infrastructure and worked on the China Mengniu acquisition of Bellamy’s.

Nick’s experience includes serving as Chief of Staff for the Australian Government in infrastructure and regional development portfolio and as Head of Government Relations for the Property Council of Australia based in Canberra working on tax reform.

Prior to these appointments, Nick worked as a senior consultant for more than a decade, specialising in corporate communications and public policy across a range of industries and the financial services sector.

Nick also spent seven years working for the Kennett Government, including more than three years as Chief of Staff to the Victorian Treasurer. He has extensive experience in managing major public policy issues and reform and has a wide network of political, media and industry contacts in Canberra and across Australia.
