Kate brings more than 25 years’ experience advising organisations on financial communications, corporate affairs, complex transactions and sensitive issues, supported by an early career in business journalism.
Kate began her career as a financial journalist at The Advertiser, The Age (Melbourne and Canberra Press Gallery) and The Australian Financial Review. That background gives her a practical understanding of how markets, investors, regulators and media assess company decisions, performance and risk, and continues to shape the advice she provides today.
She has since worked closely with boards and executive teams on major M&A and capital markets transactions, as well as a wide range of challenging situations where judgement, timing and clarity matter. Her work often involves helping clients think through stakeholder expectations and reputational considerations, particularly when issues are evolving and certainty is limited.
Kate has advised organisations including Saint Gobain, CSR, Domain Holdings, CoStar, Deutsche Bank, Whitehaven, Allianz, Novomatic and CDC Data Centres across sectors such as mining and energy, manufacturing, property, infrastructure and fintech.
Clients value Kate’s calm, considered approach and her ability to cut through complexity and provide clear, practical advice under pressure. She focuses on helping organisations communicate credibly and make sound decisions during periods of heightened scrutiny.
Before joining SEC Newgate, Kate was a Managing Director of the Kortlang/Gavin Anderson financial communications practice and later established her own firm, Kate Kerrison + Company. She holds a Bachelor of Arts (Journalism) and a Master of Teaching (Secondary).
